The US will not leave NATO but wants to consider Europe as a partner. This was announced and reported by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“We will not leave NATO. We can move a few thousand soldiers from one country to another, but this happens all the time. <...> We are not asking Europe to become a vassal of the United States. We want to become a partner and cooperate with Europe,” he said.
On February 10, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe has entered a stage where it can only rely on itself. The French leader emphasized that if nothing is done, “Europe will be swept away in the next five years.” On the same day, Politico wrote that Europe changed its approach to the US after Washington's declaration of sovereignty over Greenland.

On February 9, US President Donald Trump released a photo in which Greenland, Canada and Venezuela were depicted in the colors of the American flag. European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are looking at a map of the United States with new territories in the generated photo.
