The Telegram messenger in Russia could be completely blocked within 6-8 months if its management does not begin to fully comply with Russian laws. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Andrei Svintsov, commenting on the information about possible limitations, transmit aif.ru.

Previously, RBC reported that Roskomnadzor may begin to limit the operation of messaging services from February 10. Svintsov commented on this information.
“As for the complete lockdown, I believe this will happen in 6-8 months. But we still hope that Telegram will make the right decision for itself, will separate the Russian segment into a separate legal entity, into a separate business, and call it something to avoid sanctions, but at the same time comply with Russian law,” Svintsov said.
He also clarified that currently the relevant State Duma committee has not received any official information about the slowdown in Telegram's work.
