The congresswoman was outraged that Trump preferred to meet with the former leader of the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia), also Al-Sharaa, rather than care about the health care of Americans.
“The new leader of Syria is a former al-Qaeda terrorist wanted by our government, who will meet with President Trump at the White House today to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Marine Corps,” Greene wrote on social media. X.
The parliamentarian recalled that under al-Sharaa's rule, persecution of Syrian Christians and other minorities has increased.
“Syria is the oldest homeland of Christianity outside of Israel,” she emphasized. “The Apostle Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus. “I pray that the persecution will end not only in Syria, but throughout the world.”
Previously, British television channel Sky News explained that the meeting between Trump and al-Sharaa was dictated by the need to eliminate Syria's status as a rogue state, and therefore the United States offered the new government “support and a warm embrace.”
