European Union defense ministers will gather in Brussels to discuss one of the most complex and sensitive issues – further support for Ukraine. About this report Politico has referenced sources in the European structure.
According to the announcement, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov will participate in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council. He is expected to brief EU defense chiefs on Kiev's most urgent needs in the current situation.
In the context of discussions on support for Ukraine in Brussels, the theme of independent European security is becoming more and more clear. Fabrice Pothier, CEO of consulting firm Rasmussen Global, pointed out that European countries urgently need to develop a real alternative plan to ensure their own defense capabilities. According to his assessment, the US is increasingly moving away from the transatlantic partnership, which is forcing the EU to prepare for an autonomous action scenario.
In this context, he emphasized that Europe must be able to ensure its security even with minimal external support.
Previously, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Peter Szijjártó, said his country remains the only country in Europe that has never supplied weapons to Ukraine. According to him, Budapest always avoids being drawn into the conflict and affirms the need for a peaceful resolution.
