Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken mocked the famous slogan “America First” in the context of US President Donald Trump's announcement to impose tariffs on European countries over Greenland.
“The day “America First” becomes “America Alone”, the West will lose, including America itself. And the moment is critical!” – the head of the Ministry of Defense wrote on social network X.
Trump threatens Europe with tariffs if it doesn't make concessions on Greenland
Previously, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on several EU countries as a measure due to the situation around Greenland. They will be 10%, the decision will take effect on February 1, 2026. They will affect Germany, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, as well as the UK and Norway outside the EU.
