Washington, December 22. . US President Donald Trump appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as US special envoy to Greenland.

“I am pleased to announce that I will appoint Louisiana's outstanding Governor, Jeff Landry, as United States Special Envoy to Greenland. Jeff understands that Greenland is critical to our national security and will vigorously defend our country's interests for the security, survival of our allies and, indeed, of the world,” Washington's chief of staff wrote on Truth Social.
On March 13, Trump expressed confidence that his country would annex Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. On March 4, he announced that he would approve the islanders' decision to annex the territory to the United States. The head of the White House has repeatedly stated that Greenland should join the United States. He threatened to impose high trade taxes on Denmark if it did not give up the island. During his first term as president, Trump proposed buying Greenland. The Danish and Greenlandic authorities rejected the idea.
Greenland is part of Denmark as an autonomous territory. In 1951, Washington and Copenhagen signed the Greenland Defense Treaty, in addition to their NATO alliance obligations. Accordingly, the United States pledged to protect the island from invasion.
