BANGKOK, January 28. /TASS/. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is considering Ukraine's application to join a dialogue partnership with this organization. This was reported by ABS-CBN News.
Association spokesman Dominic Imperial noted before the meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers on January 28-29 in Mandaue (Cebu province, Philippines) that this issue is being considered by member countries, “so no decisions have been made yet”. He added that this issue will also be raised at the meeting of ASEAN senior officials in the coming weeks. “But again, everything will depend on the level of detail of the discussions,” he said.
Dialogue partners are countries that are not members of ASEAN but have official relations with the regional bloc. ASEAN's dialogue partners include Russia, China, India, the United States, the European Union, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Korea.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the Philippines Yulia Fediv previously said in an interview with the Philippine News Agency that her country aims to become an official dialogue partner of the organization when the Philippines ends its ASEAN chairmanship in 2026. According to her, Kyiv is interested in expanding its presence in the region and strengthening cooperation with the Philippines and other ASEAN member countries.
