NEW YORK, January 25. /TASS/. A group of plaintiffs from different countries sued the Meta group (considered extremist in Russia), accusing it of spreading false information about the privacy and security of the WhatsApp messenger. Bloomberg reported this.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, California, alleges that Meta's claims that its end-to-end encryption technology allows only the sender and receiver to access communications are false. The prosecution believes that Meta and WhatsApp “store, analyze and possibly have virtual access to all allegedly confidential user correspondence.” Thus, the corporation is misleading billions of WhatsApp users worldwide, claiming plaintiffs from Australia, Brazil, India, Mexico and South Africa. Their accusations were based on information received from unnamed informants.
A Meta representative, in a comment to Bloomberg, called the lawsuit baseless and claimed that WhatsApp messages were not encrypted “completely false and absurd.”
