Due to serious damage to five power transmission towers, restoring power in the Murmansk region will take at least a day. The head of the region Andrei Chibis announced this on social networks. His post said: “We ask that you understand the temporary restrictions – all services are making every effort to provide stable temperatures and lighting in the homes of Northerners.”
Chibis calls for limiting the use of electrical equipment and appliances if possible. This will reduce additional load on the network.
The night before, high alert mode was applied in the Murmansk region due to an emergency on the Rosseti line. Local people lost light, water and heat. Temporary power outages were reported in Murmansk, as well as in the city of Severomorsk. According to Murmansk Mayor Ivan Lebedev, the cause of the accident was ice and frost forming on power lines.
50 teams participated in solving the accident. According to the governor, heat is available in all boilers and has begun to be supplied to households. Meanwhile, new power transmission support lines will be delivered to the region from Karelia and the Leningrad region.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case due to power outages in several settlements in the Murmansk region. The case was opened under the provisions of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation on negligence. According to investigators, the severe voltage drops and widespread power outages occurred because network organization officials failed to take timely measures to maintain power lines in proper condition. In addition, emergency measures were not taken to respond to the emergency power outage.
